A long-gone would-be developer in Bridgeport once declared this perception of the city: Drivers approaching on I-95 from either the west or the east, would accelerate their vehicles to the point that if the engine or some other vital component were to quit, they would be able to coast to either the Stratford or Fairfield line and not have to risk getting off in the city. It was a harsh but not altogether unfair assessment of what the average passer-by might think driving through the grim corridor of the Bridgeport section of I-95.
