The Connecticut Coalition of Reason strongly objects to Middletown Mayor Daniel Drew's unconstitutional use of public property and government resources for his annual Evangelical Christian-focused National Day of Prayer event on Thursday, May 7. Both our national and state constitutions call for the strict separation of government and religion, and his decision to host this Christian prayer event on public property at the expense of all Middletown taxpayers represents a clear violation of both. We estimate that the cost of keeping town hall open for this non-town-related activity could feed a hungry Middletown family for a month, buy four new computers for the town's school system, etc.
