As a scientist conducting a study on the population of polar bears in north Greenland, part of Kristin Laidre's job involves going up in a helicopter and tranquilizing the animals so they can be tagged while sedated. This week, Laidre, who is from Seattle, and about two dozen others found themselves in Bridgeport, at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, as part of a Safe Capture class in which they learned how to properly sedate animals from a distance.
