More frequent track inspections, dozens of new repair workers and a data system to prioritize projects to fix tracks are some of the steps Metro-North Railroad is using to catch flaws in rails on Metro-North's New Haven Line. The measures and other recommendations are included in a report by Transportation Technology Center Inc., a consultant from Pueblo, Colo., hired by Metro-North Railroad last year to evaluate the railroad's track maintenance and inspection program after an M8 train derailed last year near Bridgeport and collided with another train, injuring 76 people.
