Hughes has formed a candidate committee to challenge state Sen. Andres Ayala, D-Bridgeport, for their party's endorsement in May. Jim O'Donnell, president of the library board, said in a recent interview he had previously talked to Hughes about the latter's legislative ambitions and thought the library director had decided not to move forward.
