Cardinal Edward Egan, a former Bishop of Bridgeport and Archbishop of New York, died Thursday in Manhattan He was 82. Egan was the archbishop of New York, the Roman Catholic spiritual leader of the largest city in the U.S., from 2000 to 2009. He served as bishop and head of the Diocese of Bridgeport from 1988 to 2000.
